The notion that atheists have no moral compass is an effect of a centuries long argument from consequences levied by a certain subset of the religious. Without god, they say, there is no morality. Ergo, to some of them...an atheist has no moral compass. Whereas others prefer to claim that an atheist's moral compass is secretly christian, for example. They then credit the god or the religion with whatever it is that said atheist would consider a moral statement. It's all a bunch of horseshit, but it appeals to smug assholes like you wouldn't believe, lol.
