As far as noone helping goes, I never had that experience. I came to quite a lot of accidents, both professionally when I worked the emergency services and in private. There were always people there trying to help. Even when a drunken bum got hit in the streets. Which probably stretches the sympathy of quite a few people to the limits.
Now I've seen various documentaries and reports on people standing idle when somethin bad happens to others. But that's not my personal experience.
