It's simple economics really: if you raise the cost of production you decrease the profit margins for those that do no work (investors for example) in favour of those who do the work. But you also increase the competition in the market, and increased competition helps the market to thrive. So to put it simply: yes raising the cost of production can increase the cost of the product or service, however that burden is shared and somewhat alleviated by the reduction in profit for shareholders and others "at the top".
