We all do what we can do. Not risking life and limb doesn't mean you're not making a huge difference somewhere.

There's this argument some philosopher made that the sums of money we spend that we don't really need to is basically equivalent to walking past a child drowning in a pond and doing nothing to help them, the point being you should give that money to charity and only reserve to yourself enough that you know will allow you to be able to function well enough in order to either make more money or make the same amount of money so that you keep donating at the same level or more, in the future.
Basically, most everyone in the West(well, not exclusively from the West) should do this until every starving and sick child in the world gets the care they need.
It's hard to find anything wrong with his argument, really. Sam posted a great podcast recently talking about it to a young philosopher who's dedicated his life to doing this, let me link it for anyone interested. It's a fascinating topic, really.
