Start with your local secular or atheist organization, if that makes you more comfortable. Ours did school cleans, street cleans, homeless drives, book drives, school drives, food bank drives, etc, donations to AIDS orgs, we volunteered at shelters and LGBT centers - all kinds of things. It'll get your feet wet and open you to more possibilities.
Not something my brother would likely be interested in. I might do this myself later, I'm sure there's a lot of work to do in that area especially around where I'm from, but for now, I was just planning talking to my brother about it and figuring something out that we could both enjoy and expend the resources to do - concerning helping other people.
I know it sounds like procrastination, but I'm not really the type to start doing something completely new all by myself Plus I need to spend some more quality time with my brother, I feel like we've grown more and more apart compared to how close we used to be as kids.
