Most folks don't have the time or the impetus to post on a board like this.Just replied to you but it kinda disappeared.. any who.. I was saying earlier that atheists in India are a minuscule minority of around 0.2 percent or so in a population of 3million approx... there are any others like me who have not declared their religious belief publicly .. two very common religions in India, Buddhism and Jainism, have actually denied the existence of a deity who is supposed to be the creator of this universe.. Have you gone through the poem '5000 dead gods'? read it.. its so powerful and humorous at the same time..
Chances are you're surrounded by like-minded people just going through the motions.. like you were/are. Chin up, it's not as bad as it seems.
Fun fact, atheism has a long history in hindu tradition (insomuch as hinduism can be called a monolithic tradition) - arguably the first atheists on-record espoused their position from within the collective of indian philosophy.
