I think comby is playing a political game myself.

I think he saw the real poll numbers and is trying to play both sides of the fence here to allign himself with the winner.

Perhaps there is new evidence not tied to wiki leaks, If comey can circle the wagons under the umbrella of an investigation then he can suppress this new evidence till after the election. which as bad as this seem maybe a very good thing for clinton, just depends on what this 'new evidence' is, and how badly you people want to vote for clinton.

Now if trump wins, comey has a chance to save his job as he can take credit for pushing the public in his direction.

Either way comey wins.
