No, a child IS innocent, they aren't judged guilty from the moment of birth, but rather due to human nature, a child will eventually grow up and transgress the laws of God. So in that way you're destined to fail without Christ.
No one can remain innocent in the current world that we live in; which is why it must be purged.
I am sure that when Christians finally believe the end times are present there will be many volunteers willing to do some "purging".
