A lot of what he said was stuff that I was already thinking and trying to explain on the protest thread, mainly saying that everyone who votes for Trump is a racist, bigot, sexist, etc. That's just pushing people away.
They may not be, but at the very least they don't mind. I don't think I would call them good people if they still voted for someone like that because he claimed to stand for one or two pet values of theirs. If the KKK and their former Grand Wizard David Duke endorsing Trump didn't ring any bells, there's obviously nothing reaching them in their apathy.
From what I understand after discussing with several people who begrudgingly voted for Trump, it was more a vote against Hillary (whom they thought was worse and more corrupt) than anything else.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
