I think Trump realized that when you spend your entire campaign trash talking people, you aren't going to be able to get them to cooperate with you if you win. And I think he's going to struggle with that for a VERY long time. He's trying to fix things now, but maybe he could have fixed things a year ago and, say, not encouraged his followers to assault protesters.
