It turns out there wasn't a stricture. I don't quite get it yet, but it was some other problem which could be sorted out more easily. They did it by keyhole, and it wasn't necessary to remove a bowel segment. This is great news! I think I shall now be able to eat again, and I could be going home as early as tomorrow 
I'll gather better info later, but this is awesome! I felt very bad when I first came round but I've recovered fast, and I'm doing pretty well. If I don't make sudden movements, I'm fairly pain free.
They gave me an epidural! Fucking hell. It's apparently a better standard way of tackling pain for this kind of thing.
I do have a pipe jammed up my nob though, and not in a good way.
