Funny how you put that. Your morality apparently does follow religion, as you assume that my view is related to my religion. I take it you'd be OK with assessing refugees/immigrants based on religion?

You question was, at least how I understood it, about why would you value the two lives equally. Not a question about how behavior actually manifests itself.
My point is that if we operate from incorrect premises we're less likely to reach optimal conclusions. I'm not separating the should from reality.
