The notion that religion "makes people better" is probably one of the sickest and most insulting ideas that people have ever used to justify their silly beliefs, or shield the silly beliefs of others from criticism. It doesn't do that, none of them do, so what are we talking about..a way to make the other guy sound like an asshole for calling idiocy....... idiocy? Whose the asshole in that equation, again?
He wasn't the first to say it. He got preempted by a few thousand years. Nevertheless, it was as true when he said it as it was when the sentiment was first expressed and just as true today. It;s kind of interesting to me, because I understand the need for societal opiates, as it were (and personal opiates)...it just strikes me as strange that the very people who consume the juice make such inane efforts to characterize it as anything, absolutely anything other than what it is. It's almost as if they wouldn;t be able to accept it unless it was more than what it was...and that...to me...is telling.
