In the meantime other crimes were committed by non-refugees.

This seems to be a case of picking out the fact he was a refugee almost as a comtributing factor to the crime rather than being an incidental detail. A bit like saying "Blue eyed boy steals car". Maybe he did but the two facts are not connected.

Not to pick a nit, but economic migrants are not actual refugees and receive zero vetting. Agreeing with you, but adding a detail.

In Europe genuine refugees deliberately get mislabelled as economic migrants, both by governments and the media. It's easier to demonise and otherise people who are fleeing tyranny if you think they're here to steal your jobs/dole/housing benefit.
