I was twelve and it captured my imagination more than any movie that came before. (I was too young to truly appreciate 2001 but for some odd reason I liked Logan's Run...more action I suppose). Let's see, I read Foster's novellization, had the comic books (gone now to my dismay, the 1978 calendar (which I still have), the Escape from Death Star board game, and a ton of trading cards (which I sold on Ebay).
So I understand the importance of Star Wars as a phenomena not the least was the jump start is gave to Science Fiction movies and television: Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rodgers, etc. I think Space 1999 and Logan's Run (the television series) came before, though. Does anyone know if Space 1999 is available to watch again anywhere? That would be kinda interesting to watch again.
Space 1999 is available on HULU for free and probably elsewhere as well.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
