Coal mining has been a declining industry since the mid 80's.
It has nothing to do with "Mexicans" or "muslims" or "jews" or international trade deals or anything besides the fact that natural gas, which the US has in abundance (right now) is surpassing coal for a variety of reasons.

Sadly what people want is a magical solution so they don't have to change. There is no such thing as magic but that doesn't stop far too many of them from listening to a charlatan who tells them what they want to hear. Hillary told coal miners the truth: bad move. They don't want truth. They can't handle the truth.
Yep. That's just one of the reasons Trump is going to find himself unable to follow through with at least one promise he made on the campaign trail. He's going to have similar problems with that promise to save American manufacturing jobs. Unless he's willing to count manufacturing in places like Guam or American Samoa, which are technically American soil without all those pesky labor laws, he's not going to be able to keep manufacturing here without pro-sweatshop labor laws (and let's face it: you can only build so many factories on islands as small as Guam).
In 2020, his opponent, whoever it is, is going to remind the voters that Trump promised to save coal and bring back manufacturing jobs.
Still, I'm hoping the democrats have their own internal revolution and start standing up for the middle class again. How about we put back in place some of the banking regulations that prevented economic disasters from the 40's until the 2000's? How about we give some power to labor unions? How about we expand public health care to more than just congress, the elderly and vets? Seriously, as much as the Republicans are completely despicable, I'd love to see the Democrats actually be progressive.
