I could, but I don't see the point. I'm not going to teach my children the racist undertones, I'm going to teach them the song. Why do we have to give up a song because of the way it was originally written? I suppose I can relate to modern Christians in this way.
Their books were written by men who didn't understand the natural world and who were racist and sexist. Does this mean that Christians should not find meaning in the Bible? No. Modern Christians find meaning in the Bible, they find good stories, etc. Heck, even I admit Jesus was probably a nice guy. The historical usage of something shouldn't be a factor in its modern usage.
