Why do we have to give up a song because of the way it was originally written? I suppose I can relate to modern Christians in this way.
Their books were written by men who didn't understand the natural world and who were racist and sexist. Does this mean that Christians should not find meaning in the Bible? No. Modern Christians find meaning in the Bible, they find good stories, etc. Heck, even I admit Jesus was probably a nice guy. The historical usage of something shouldn't be a factor in its modern usage.
Of course what you buy for your children, and how you explain to them, is your business.
So how about golliwogs? Would you buy one ( if you could find an outlet )? If you would, on what basis would you buy? A harmless, cuddly toy? Or something to educate your children about the nature of racism?
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?
