We start talk about whether hate is bad until we discuss what "bad" means. "Bad" implies a goal: car crashes are "bad" because for most, living is an important goal, and car crashses endanger life. Rock and Roll is "bad" because it lets teenagers shake their bodies and enjoy themselves, and it is their parents' goal for them not to do that. Hate is "bad" because it causes stress and can lead to acts of aggression that people dislike, can threaten health, and can interfere with the pursuit of happiness-- both for the hater and the one who has to deal with his aggression.
I wouldn't say that's a reason-- it's really more of a definition.
