First off, sorry to hear about all this. It's going to make your life difficult having parents caught up in this type of conspiracy cult and I wish you the best in dealing with this.
Second, I've written about the prevalence of this before and I don't think people see it as wide spread as I do but I will say it again. The information age has not led to any greater understanding but instead has led to an epidemic of confirmation bias that is very widespread. While liberals fall for some of it, conservatives have been netted in disturbingly large numbers by conspiracy nutters.
People like that crazy pastor and the insane Alex Jones are now able to broadcast their nonsense to the universe. People like your parents are being manipulated in large numbers. The right wing media has taken conspiracy theories and politicized then purely for the purpose of winning elections and it has worked.

20 years ago Alex Jones was and his ilk were kooks to be laughed at. Today, the president and a great many of his followers get their information from these kooks just like your parents do.
