We don't have 'proms'.
Australia has SCHOOLIE'S WEEK!
Our school year ends in November, just in time for our summer.
Schoolie's week happens all over the country. Thousands of year 12 boys an girls invade a series of coastal towns for a week long party. There is much drinking and rooting, with a high police presence, but usually very few arrests-they tend to be of predatory adults, known by schoolies as "toolies"
I live in South Australia. Here the event is held at Victor Harbour, 50 miles South of [/php]Adelaide..

Schoolies as a 'Rite of Passage'
Schoolies Week is considered by some as a cultural rite of passage in Australia, it is an in between phase or transition time in terms of social status. After graduating high school, young people can emerge into the adult world, beyond high school and into a life of their own design. Schoolies Week is a celebration to mark this event or transition.
