If you tell them you're an atheist, they may simply disown you. But, there's a also decent chance that they'll take it upon themselves to "purify" you...via pain, torture, captivity, starvation, etc. You get the drift. Whatever it takes to prevent you from becoming "lost".

Depends on how much they love you, I guess.
