Because it removes on of the most favoured christard arguments from the board, i.e. "atheists are the only people to commit genocide, therefore atheism is the devil". When you drill down into who they are pointing at you find out that Hitler was christian (yes, he waz trying to radically change the religion, but so were Luther, Calvin, Knox, Hus, Henry Tudor and many others yet they are still accorded the label christian), Stalin was orthodox (after a ten year period of anti-theism), Pot was a vicious blend of buddhism and catolocism and the Kims believe(d) themselves gods. About the only one you could argue an atheist was Mao, and even then you're working in murky waters, because he held a lot of orthodox confuscianist beliefs and by the end was well down the "I am your god!" road.
