Fair call about the sleep paralysis part not being the case. But whatever the exact sleep experience was (terror episode), I interpreted that to mean he got out of bed after the experience.
When he got out of bed was when he had it. That's when he was standing over the sink and saw a figure standing behind him in the mirror. Did you read the story? Lol.
