I am not saying your ride was easy.
Were you from a systematically oppressed area?
I was born in the inner city in Pittsburgh. My dad was in the Navy and we moved a bit. But, yeah, I have lived in these areas.
I have systemically oppressed skin. I've had a service weapon pulled on me for having a brake light out and reaching into my glove box for the registration that a police officer asked of me. I get called "boy" about once a month. I have been told that I am not welcome at a gas station because "we don't serve ragheads here." I have to put on my "good accent" when I go into job interviews, just in case I'm too black for some of these assholes in Tennessee. I thank my parents for naming me "Michael" and not "JaMarcus" because then I would have to send three times as many resumés.
My only issue was the equivocation.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
