So millions of animals were slaughtered to give away the plot to God's novel? Him liking the smell of burning animal flesh is a more sensible motivation.
Maybe a culture inured to animal sacrifice is more likely to interpret tragic deaths as their god taking a sacrifice.

We pretty much DO have it made. Our main problem is that we live in a world where everyone else thinks the ruler of the universe shares their opinions.
