They like fighting over land yes, but that does not help global poverty.
Africans were used as assets by Muslims, Christians and Jews.
I criticize missionaries and missionary movements because instead of looking to change people's live to the best; they look into servicing the Church or the mosque or the organisation.
Africans were used, just like most poor people are being also used by missionaries: mere assets that increase and grow the numbers following a certain religion.
Masses converted, but did so to eat a free loaf or get a painkiller injection. Life changing doesn't exist.

The first step is to feel hunger.
Many don't feel hunger. 2.1 Billion humans are estimated to be overweight.
Tasting hunger and thirst; even for a month; even for a sunrise to sunset will help understanding the real issue of poverty.
The second step is to give:
Quote:Sura 76, Page 579, The Quran:
( 8 ) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,
( 9 ) [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.
( 10 ) Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful."
( 11 ) So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness
( 12 ) And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].

It's not a punishment after all. I like to think of it as a hunger strike.
Fasting is more of a self-punishment to stir the feelings and emotions in others, but in the case of Ramadan the only ones involved are God and the self.
Fasting doesn't replace giving the poor. Actually; giving is called "Zaka or Sadaqa" and fasting is called "Seyam"; both are separate types of worship.
Teaching the self something is a great thing. Many fail to do it. Self discipline is one treasured habit.
