WOW!
Do they even have guards? (Kidding)
And yet their recidivism rate is the lowest in Europe.
I've long thought the prison systems in America need serious reform. Treating people like animals is going to result in animals eventually being released into the public.
It's especially idiotic to incarcerate those sentenced to life without parole along side those who are short timers. Lifers have nothing to lose. They can do anything they want to anyone and except for being punished by being temporarily housed in Administrative Segregation (Ad Seg), there is no deterrent that can possibly intimidate someone who knows full well they have free reign to express their violent nature, because the only way they're ever getting out of prison is in a box.
I'd like to see that Norway model open here in the States. Many prisons are now private corporate run facilities, so it's not beyond comprehension though the far right ultra conservative ilk would no doubt combust at the thought.
Impetus enough right there, to go for it.

"In life you can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. When you go through your day expressing kindness and courtesy to all you meet, you leave behind a feeling of warmth and good cheer, and you help alleviate the burdens everyone is struggling with."
