Yes, Yahweh acts like basically every dictator ever. The story is essentially a tool to help prevent rulers from being assassinated. Some Joe Shmoe asshold kicks everyone around, and eventually the people revolt and show him how weak he really is. But we can't tough a god, and if we kill a divinely appointed ruler, then we'll suffer in the next live. Though I'm sure religious leaders still get assassinated once in a while.
