Try as I might, I can't see anything backward in this, or am I missing something?-
Paul said- "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28 )
Ephesians 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
Paul wrote that too. And he wrote it to Christians. So apparently even in the body of Christ there can be slaves.
1 Timothy 2:12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
Paul clearly thinks there are still genders and gender roles here. So I don't think the verse you are quoting means what you think it means. And yeah, these verses seem pretty backwards to me considering we no longer own slaves and women are allowed into authority positions.
