I found some old pictures recently of some of my old monologue performances and they tugged at my aluminum heart. Anywhooooo! Now I mostly write prose to help with the cravings. I just write as a hobby, though. I've never published anything. I'm no writing guru! We have some amazing writers in the forums, though. I have deep respect for their work and talent. Very interesting folks.
That's great! Plays are tough: I've written parts of plays but never been able to finish them. I tried to write a musical once (Lin Manuel made it look so easy) but that was very difficult.
I know what you mean about looking back at your work: it shows a lot about who you were in the past. This is why I like my journals. I started writing everyday when I was 12, so I have this very precise chronicle of growing up.
I monologue all the time, but it is inpromtu and usually to the chagrin of everyone around me (also characterized as me ranting ).

I learned classical piano as a kid. Now I play piano pretty much everyday but any songs I like, usually contemporary music, instead of just RCM pieces (with a technical background it's quite easy to learn complex covers). I'm a very loud pianist and I usually play my songs too fast. No joke, I want to get a kick drum to keep a beat while I play piano. Cringe all you like. I'm going to start learning cello this fall which will be pretty awesome, because it's such a beautiful instrument. What kinds of things do you play?
