There is no such thing as a perfect religion. The only reason the Amish don't do that is because they are not a minority and do not have enough mass for political power. But I wouldn't go around claiming the Amish are fond of gays even if they don't throw them off rooftops.
They are still a very conservative religion. And they deprive their youth from contact with the outside world. They have a tradition that at a certain age the kid is allowed to leave for a while, but because they are so deprived of diverse contact, they end up returning. No different than training a dog. Same reason Muslim girls/women will submit to the male head of the family, that is all they know.
Religions create dependency on the group regardless of label. It really is simply a twisted comic book version of our evolutionary grouping to create social order.
And it makes nonsense out of their insistence that there's free will. Yeah, but we have to instill a sense of fear and dependence in you by indoctrinating you from the cradle to make sure you don't develop a sense that you actually had any choice in the matter. Because they know it would never work on a grown adult with fully functioning critical thinking capability. Winning those kind of people over? Now THAT would be impressive. And surely well within the power of a divine being. Too bad that never seems to be one of the 'miracles' they perform.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
