Because they're conservative, religious people. LGBT breaks a certain traditional, simplistic mold that people are think others are supposed to fit into. Though part of it is because our puritan roots tell us that sex is evil, and if you're going to have it, then it better be to have kids, otherwise you're just fornicating, and that's evil and wrong.
Transgenderism has a whole different level, because to some it comes off as just having a mental problem. Like if you have a dick, but you believe you're a woman, then it's just because you're a crazy person that needs to be fixed. Not that you're just wired differently, and it's ok to be different, and no one really knows how you feel better than you.
