Good article, but it strikes the same defeatist tone. It's not entirely true that there are no engineering solutions, even to the problems of melting permafrost and possible methane bloom...it's just that we're too busy dumping the majority of global gdp on things we seem to think are greater existential threats to engage in the sort of global project that would be required to get proactive - meanwhile, our copnservation efforts appear to be focused on returning earth, in some sense, to what we consider pristine...when they should be focused on re-tasking and re-purposing whatever natural ecology furthers our aim of not dying.
Try some Chris Mckay, Ames Research center, while other people dream of terraforming mars..he's trying to get people to take geo-engineering seriously, and as the only feasible solution to our climate troubles long or short term.
