I am a shia muslim, and hope to have a fruitful time on these boards, where i can not only put across my views, but with an open mind - as much as is possible realistically- learn more about atheism.
We have another Muslim here named Atlass33. He is a nice guy, puts up with our raking his claims over the coals, but just his claims, not him.
Basically there is not much you need to know.
1. We are diverse, we don't always agree with each other.
2. We come from all classes, we hold a variety of political and economic views, and we have left all the world's major religions. We come in all skin tones.
3. "Atheist" merely means "off" on God/god/s/deity claims, nothing more. We don't eat babies or barbecue kittens. If you want to know what an atheist thinks about a topic, don't assume we all believe the same thing, ask the individual.
One thing i have come to understand, particularly with respect to atheists (who i have been around for a very long time) is that no two atheists are the same. While there are similarities, common points of references generally speaking, they are a more diverse group than any other.
Furthermore, even though they may not believe in objective morality, or certain theistic conceptions of what is moral or not, it does not necessarily mean they do not have a moral compass; i believe morality to a certain extent is part of the nature of a human - though you may argue we have evolved to have some of these moral traits as it is advantageous to our survival.
