I'd sooner believe we're living in a "They Live" sort of hypnotic state than any religious myth. At least the former makes way more sense about why so many people are so easily duped by what the satirists are telling them not to be, or why so many people just are so dense or oblivious that the satire goes right over their heads.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
