Meat is the best for that, though.
My perfect meal is a grilled steak, medium, with a nice lettuce, tomato, and cucumber salad. Nothing else is required and anything only lessens its perfectness!
(but restaurants will stuff you with fries and rice, of course -.-')
I like the fries and rice though.I've never been big on just hunks of meat. I mean I love eating meat but just a slab of it is difficult for me to eat. I prefer it on a burger or shredded in my food (mostly pasta) I've been eating salad every day for lunch and I'm about sick of them but I don't know what else to eat... I'm too southern American because I don't even know other options. I'm going to HEB today and gunna wonder around it looking for something suitable. (And for something that doesn't cost 7 bucks a meal cause there are great fish things there but cost a shit ton)
oh...
What about fish?
I suppose the Gulf produces some nice fisheries, no?
Some fish are better grilled, some fried, some boiled, some roasted.
The boiled ones you can boil alongside some veggies, like carrots, cauliflower and the like... you can make something we call esparregado - basically mashed spinach with garlic. And serve everything with a neat serving of olive oil so it slides down, instead of just stuffing you.
You need to learn some neat things about the Mediterranean cuisine.
These here look soooo yummy!

Hint> always use olive oil as if it's a super expensive nectar from the gods, but use enough to make things taste good. The correct amount of olive oil is an art form

The exception to this rule is this dish:

But you can't get your hands on this salted bacalhau, so... no worries... well... nothing prevents you from trying the same recipe with a different fish!
