I know that was super harsh and judgy on my part, but it makes me mad when men don't step up to the plate to be good fathers and the women have to raise a kid AND deal with BS from their child's father. I mean, the most basic thing a man can do as a dad is to stop abusing drugs.

You are making assumptions here.

The OP hasn't said that he is abusing drugs, only that he uses weed. We do not know how many times he vapes and he does specifically say "never once has it caused me anger or a dangerous loss of self-functioning ability." And that he does it in a well ventilated area so he is clearly being considerate.

Just because someone uses weed doesn't mean to say that they are not stepping up to the plate or not being a good father any more than you could say that about someone that occasionally drinks wine.

Also the OP did say that he uses it for anxiety, not for recreational use. Although recreational use of pot is no worse than recreational use of alcohol.

You don't know how many times the OP uses cannabis or that he is high all the time or even that he is causing BS for the wife. Nor do we know that the wife isn't having the same conditioned reaction as you to the use of weed without consideration as to why the OP is using it in the first place.

It is worth bearing in mind that it is perfectly normal for people to use drugs to modulate their neurochemicals. Most people drink coffee to the point where they cannot function without it (I don't, it has a much stronger effect on my than cannabis). Most people drink alcohol to unwind. Cannabis was initially banned during the first world war to make the soldiers more effective and it is legally prescribed for medical use, and recreational use, in various countries.

You refer to the OP as a pot head but that's the equivalent of referring to anyone that is not completely tee-total as a drunkard.

C_L, did you catch the part I bolded?  Almost all medicines come from botanicals.  Pot has been shown to have beneficial effects for some conditions, anxiety included.  If you've never suffered from high anxiety yourself you may underestimate the seriousness of the condition he is suffering from.  Medicating with weed may well be something he is doing in order to step up more fully to his responsibilities.  If it helps, I say this as a person hasn't used it for more than thirty years, so I have no vested interest in its recreational use.
