Putin wants to get his money's worth from his boy. Russia's long game involves the citizens of major Western countries becoming increasingly disillusioned by their governments, distrustful of their institutions, and divided amongst themselves. It's in their interest that Trump staggers into a second term. Putin understands how unlikely that is so long as a growing majority of Americans view Trump as the dangerous, contemptible clown he is and say it out loud and often. And so he (of all people) presumes to lecture us about our internal politics. Those are some big brass balls.
