It's the "confession room" or "Repentance" idea that so many religious people believe in.
The Quran says something interesting about that:
The concept for many, that God is like an ATM: sin as much as you like; then pay a few pennies, repent, confess, and a whole week of sinning will be forgiven.
Sin as much as you like, kill, plunder, and then say a couple of prayers, and that would be it ! the ATM will throw you some cash, take; repeat.
Many don't treat God like an intelligent entity if you ask me. And the "confession room" concept is just a big part in that mentality.
So the study makes a lot of sense TBH.

( 17 ) The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.
