It -is- straightforward and honest...it's just that straightforward and honest isn't synonymous with positive. That's why we have the term "brutal honesty". A perception that such a comment was negative is an accurate one. Ah communication....a field of human landmines if ever there were one. Ultimately, we're only discussing whether it;s better to giggle out "lolbullshit" or couch that very same thought in derisive euphemism. Brutal honesty or sweet deception? I suppose there's room and utility for both.
