Given enough power, anything can be threatened. Your god certainly seemed threatened by Humans growing too powerful in the older bible stories. "They've taken from the tree of knowledge, and have become like us Hurry and stop them from eating the fruit of eternal life".
God stopped them from eating from the tree of life so they would not have to live for eternity in their sin, that is reserved for those in hell.
Well given that sin is a thing he made up for whatever he doesn't like, it's a given that he feels threatened by it somehow. The happiest countries in the world tend to be secular mixes of democracy and socialism. Two things that are about as far from a theocratic dictatorship as it can get. He has a yearning to be needed. Either as a source of knowledge, like in the garden, or a source of dependency like when he wrecked the tower of babel because Humanity was uniting under one goal, and it didn't revolve around him. If he wanted sheep so badly, he should have just stuck with making sheep.

This is what I believe too. Even if you think killing is fine, it's not something he should have to resort to. As powerful as he is, he had other options. As far as the bible is concerned he seems to just give commands, and if they're not followed he goes straight to the extreme end of killing people. There's no in between there.
