For once I can't rail against the church, what they're doing is harmless enough afaics. They're teaching the kids a few craft skills and I can't see any obvious exploitation going on and I imagine the amount of money they make would fit comfortably under my foreskin. They are showing kids how to be kids, I can't see a problem here.
As I stated, I'm not mad at the action itself, but at the hypocrisy around it. If they wanna ask kids to make crafts and sell them that's fine. I'm not saying that they're exploiting children, what bugs me is that the Church claims to be so generous for doing this. This particular church has valuable possessions, yet prefers to let the poor work for themselves, rather than really donating anything. I know the proverb: "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.", but the Church doesn't do that well either. They make children craft some card gifts and sell it, how much money can that make? Just think about how much church money (I mean as an institutuion, not just this particular church) could be used to develop the agriculture, to build homes and schools in third world countries and so on. If you're gonna make the poor work for their own money, you better do it right.

I also highly doubt that the Church provided materials or money for the crafts, here in Romania you're usually supposed to buy your own materials. I wouldn't be surprised if the institution itself bought the materials needed. And I also doubt that any church member taught the kids how to craft. Even if they did all of this, the problems I mentioned at the beginning are still there.

You may not completely understand the "manipulation" aspect of religion. It includes financial. They claim to be generous but always never seem to have enough. In this country they even get to distribute government collected money and take the credit.

I understand the manipulation part of religion very well, that's exactly why I left it. I'm disgusted by their bullshit, because I recognise it's bullshit. The ones who don't understand the manipulation part are the religious. They don't know religion as well as we atheists.
