The majority of police officers deaths in the line of duty are accidental. FBI stats from 2013 (same year as the above graphic) state:

"Preliminary statistics released today by the FBI show that 27 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2013"
"An additional 49 officers were accidentally killed in the line of duty in 2013."
That being said, I would like to see you opinion of how these particular men could've handled this encounter with the police differently.
