If my mom, for example only, had committed murder, I might still love her, but I most certainly would not condone it. Why are you assuming she is still associating herself with Harvey?
And no, no more of this "all or nothing" crap. Hillary had her minority busters as much as Bernie, and the irony of that is they BOTH were on the same page during the general election.
And why are you assuming she is going to run at all? Until she makes an official announcement, or even Bernie or Hillary for that matter, we won't know who the field is.
I am voting for whomever gets the Dem nomination, Warren, or Biden, or Hillary or Bernie and yes, on the off chance Oprah does run her too. None of this is a done deal in any case.
I am focused on THIS NOVEMBER on flipping congress in any case, to give WHOMEVER we run in 2020 a damned good shot to change policy and undo the damage the GOP is doing, including The Supreme Court.
Of course she's not going to defend Harvey's actions in public (although Weinstein did say Oprah called him to give her support after the allegations came in), but she knew what he was for all of these years, and still decided that that was the person she wanted to be great friends with. That was the person she hung around, arm in arm, kissing him on the cheek. She had the power to bring him down. She had the power to stand up for all of the women he has abused/threatened/whatever, but she only speaks out now that it's convenient and because she would get slammed for not speaking out at this point, and she's supposed to be some champion for women and their rights? I like that girls can look at Oprah and then think to themselves that they can be successful like her too. That's a good thing of course, but I'd say she's maybe a good interviewer and business woman, and that's about it. I'll give her credit for that.
If Oprah wins the nomination and you then don't really think you have much of a choice but to vote for her, then that's one thing. That's fine and all, I guess, but Bernie is the most popular politician in America, and he will very likely be the only true liberal in the race if he runs, so the people need to demand him. Another neoliberal is not acceptable at this point.
No it is not, "She's the best" or "I'll settle for her"
It is funny that everyone is complaining about "celebrity" but supporters in BOTH Hillary and Bernie camps, NOT THE MAJORITY, but unfortunately enough in both, WERE worshiping them like gods. I am not worshiping Oprah, nor Hillary, nor Bernie. I am looking at the totality of what direction liberals want to take our country, and to do that that requires a House, a Senate and a white house IN COMBO. ESPECIALLY in the Supreme Court.
The only thing about Oprah is that I don't think she would be horrible like some might think. Dems will not win with anyone, we won't with Hillary or Bernie or Warren or Biden either, if we repeat the same all or nothing infighting.
There is no such thing as a perfect Candidate no matter whom we nominate. 1 office by itself is not a magic pill, it still ultimately requires the other branches to work with each other.
This is what I hate about my fellow liberals. Not you but for decades now I have been frustrated. We can win a Presidency, sure. but we never give that president a long enough majority in both houses to make LONG TERM progress.
Seriously, go look at the balance of power in the past 36 years and not just the office of the White House but all 3 branches as an average.. The GOP ON AVERAGE, has held more power averaged out long term, than we have. That is because we don't work on our local and state elections, we also dont do anything to win a majority of our state govs or govenorships.
WE need to stop making this about one person being our savior, it has to be ground up in every state and unity in the party. That is why the GOP has the long term power they do, because they think long term.
Bernie wont have shit to work with, nor Hillary with those divisions, even though THEY united in the general themselves. I'd take Warren or Biden right now before either Bernie or Hillary because of what happened in 16.
UNITY wins, not division.
