OK mine would be "Sunshine" (2007). I watched this movie because it is frequently mentioned by people and is on movie lists as one of the best sf movies of all time, but I really don't get why. The movie is literally one SF cliche after another. I don't get what's so great. Even as it was heading toward the ending I was thinking "I hope they don't end it with going down with the bomb like in Dr. Strangelove" and yep.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
