While virtually every example of countries that have universal health care are capitalist, I wouldn't call it capitalist in nature. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm certainly no expert, but that's not what I learned in economics.
Capitalism simply refers to a economic system where the means of production are controlled privately and operated for profit. It says nothing about who owns the services.
Capitalism as strictly defined has been shown to be capable of, but by no means garranteed to, increasing the wealth and material means of a substantially developed society faster than other economic systems over periods of a few decades or longer. That is really it’s sole justification. However, in the US, sober accessmemt and justification of capitalism has given way to idealistic glorification of capitalism. What is more, once clear headed view of what is capitalism and what its strict benefits are has given way to a muddleheaded, quasi-religious glorification of a amorphous ideal of capitalism, all sorts of people seeks to justify all kinds of self serving practice detrimental to overall heath of the society by invoking the elastic shield of “capitalism”, just like the Catholic Church defends practices aimed at furthering its own wealth and power with doctrines of faith.
