Not to mention all the atheists who give help through religious charities, and there are a lot of them.

My experience as well. Among various other charities that are regulars on my giving list, I donate to an organization that helps street people. Their inspiration is religious but they do great work.
(All the other recipients are non-religious, though -- Medical charities (4), arts groups (2), and the Humane Society.)
