I read that, and suddenly the irritation I had just vanished. Instead, I merely feel disgust that she had to blame her date for being and publish an article on it.
I do think a lot of the backlash is over the perception that she is a malicious gold digger -- key term on malicious.
For the guy who she badmouthed (Jon Finkel), things appear to have gone rather well...

Apparently women are sending him tweets and asking for dates (though he regretfully notes none of them seem to be in the New York area). So things went pretty damn well for him.
So I'd end this chapter with "Mr. Finkel, I salute you for your cool handling of this entire situation, given the very public nature of the entire scenario."
