Then and now.
May 24, 2020 at 5:33 pm
Things you have seen change in your lifetime....
When I was a kid - we had quail, Chinese pheasants, grouse and skunks in abundance... Now - nothing... I haven't seen any of them in at close to 20 years.
But - back then we did not have - but do now - whitetail deer, turkeys, coyotes and bald eagles. We also have fishers and mink - but not in abundance.
We have not yet - but the neighboring counties have documented black bear and cougars... (Not the tavern variety)
What's changed where you hang your hat?

There seem to be a lot more young people around now than when I was in my 20s.

And have you noticed - they are all better looking?

Yup. Yup. Yup.
On the wild animal side, though, I miss badgers. Nothing happened to them, I just moved to a part of the world where badgers aren’t.
Few things are more enlightening than watching a 20lb badger explain to a 100 lb dog why the dog has just made a shockingly bad decision.

In Indiana when I was a kid it was "beans on the right, corn on the left" as you went down the road.
Sixty years later nothing has changed. Indiana is as boring as fuck.

Sounds like what people say about The Burren in Co. Clare: miles and miles OF miles and miles.

It's hard for me to speak to the change in the wildlife population. I grew up in the country but have been in much more urban areas the last few years. I am happy we have quite a variety of wild birds who visit and I try to keep the birdfeeders filled to make sure they keep coming around.
Then and now...so many things...
Vinyl, and the wonderful album covers***digital downloads
Rotary phones with party lines***phone that doubles as a computer that fits in my hand
Waiting weeks for film to be developed***phone that doubles as a camera that provides editing and printing ^see above
Wringer washing machines***washing machines you can control with an app on your phone
Three channels (and we kids were the remote)***roughly eight bazillion channels you can call up with a voice recognition remote control
Waiting for weeks for an order to arrive from the Sears catalog***two day shipping on almost everything
Paging through the encyclopedia with a dictionary on the side***Google
***so many things

I got a SS396 Chevelle up to >145 mph on one of those country roads. Two AM, the raccoons are in bed.
You might have had a rougher go of it on The Burren.
